Important Definitions

Swachh Bharat Abhiyan : It is a nationwide cleanliness campaign, launched on October 2, 2014 with a vision to achieve a clean and open-defecation-free India by 2019. The broader objective was to improving public health and sanitation infrastructure. 

Hygiene : Hygiene includes personal hygiene, such as handwashing with soap, maintaining clean surroundings, and adopting safe food practices.

Sanitation : Sanitation encompasses the provision of safe toilets, proper waste disposal systems, and access to clean water supply.  

Swachh Survekshan : It is a comprehensive cleanliness survey, conducted annually to rank cities and assess their progress in areas like waste management, sanitation infrastructure, and citizen feedback. 

Swacchagrahi  : It refers to individuals or groups who actively promote cleanliness, inspire others, and take ownership of their surroundings.

Sustainable sanitation : It is the practice of managing human excreta in a way that minimizes environmental impact and public health risks, while also being economically and socially viable. 

Community Mobilization : It is a process of bringing together individuals, groups, and organizations in a community to work together to achieve a common goal.
